MYSORE STYLE

What makes this practice unique

Mysore Style is the traditional form of Ashtanga Yoga. Unlike a led class, each student practices their own sequence, at their own pace. You learn one pose at a time , the sequence builds, becomes memorized, and becomes yours.

No performance. Just the simple repetition of a gesture, day after day.

01
Individualized
The instructor guides you personally, adjusts your practice and helps it evolve progressively.
02

At your own pace
No competition. You progress according to your body, your day, your level  in respect of your limits.

03
Consistency
It is in repetition that something deeper takes root. A regular, honest, and human practice.
04
Collective Energy
An individual practice, supported by the presence of the group. Alone, together.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Everything you need to know before getting started

Is Ashtanga Mysore Style for beginners?
Yes, absolutely. Mysore Style is ideal for beginners because progression is personalized. You start where you are  no prior poses are required.

Do I need to know the Ashtanga primary series before coming?
No. The sequence is learned progressively, one pose at a time, under Maude’s guidance. This is precisely one of the great advantages of the Mysore style.

What is the difference between a led Ashtanga class and Mysore Style?
In a led class, the entire class follows the same pace at the same time. In Mysore, each student practices at their own pace while the instructor circulates and guides individually.

Where are the Ashtanga classes at Yoga Shak located?
Classes take place at our Yoga Shak Montréal studio. Check the schedule page for the exact address and availability.
